MANDALAY DIVISION – After Major Thet Naing Soe of the junta council’s Madaya Township Administration Team was attacked and killed, the junta council is said to be shelling the villages in the township.
Major Thet Naing Soe was shot on April 24 around 8 a.m. in a teashop near Magyi Thone Pin entrance to Madaya on the Pyin Oo Lwin – Madaya Road. Two more people were shot alongside him and only one survived, according to locals. But only the death of Major Thet Naing Soe has been confirmed.
The junta council is said to be firing heavy artillery shells into the village from the military camp in Madaya after that attack.
“They fired three rounds in the evening and starting firing more around 8 p.m. It is lucky that the shells missed the village. No one dares to sleep,” said a resident from a village on the Pyin Oo Lwin – Madaya Road.
Major Thet Naing Soe was the main leader of the junta council’s Madaya Township Administration Team and was the majority driving force behind the junta administration mechanism, according to local revolutionary forces. Local people reported that his death angered the junta council, leading to tightened security checks and arrests of civilians.
Madaya Township has a strong resistance against the junta regime and there are frequent battles in the area.
Previously on November 16, 2023, junta council troops massacred 13 men inside a teashop at Aungkanthar Village in Madaya Township, an event labeled by Madaya Township People’s Defence Force as one of the junta council’s mass murders.
So far, none of the revolutionary forces have issued any notice regarding the death of Major Thet Naing Soe while the junta council is desperately finding those who carried out the attack.
