KACHIN STATE – After a military vehicle was fired upon in Moe Kaung, the junta council sealed off three civilian homes. A man from the Moe Kaung area said that the homes that were sealed off were the home of the owner of the Zin Yaw gas station and the houses of two people from Oh Tan Ward and Zay Gone Ward, all three of whom have been arrested for alleged links to the PDF.
“Currently, the houses in the Zay Gone area and the Oh Tan area are sealed off. I heard that there were also inspections. Zin Yaw gas station has been closed for a long time. They shut down the business by barricading the gas stations with ropes,” he said.
After a military vehicle was shot in Moe Kaung on August 19, the military council hunted and arrested civilians they suspect even in September, only releasing some of them later.
There were approximately 60 civilians arrested and some are facing court trials, the local said.
“There are some people who are in custody at the police station and are facing law suits. There is no sentencing yet.” He said.
Those who are facing the case have been prosecuted under Sections 50 (j) and 52 (a) of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
Among the civilians arrested by the military council, Mr. Joseph Wa Baw Tan Gun and Ms. Khin Mar Shwe, the owner of the Zin Yaw gas station, died after getting tortured during interrogation.
