THAILAND – Thai Royal Navy announced that it has prepared ships to rescue the Thai citizens who can potentially get caught up in the escalating conflicts in Myanmar.
The Navy has four ships at the ready in the Bengal Bay and has arranged to initiate rescue operations of Thai citizens once unusual circumstances arise, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Adung Phan-iam.
The admiral ordered the No. 3 Region Navy Force spread out in the Bay of Bengal to have two frigates and two landing ships ready.
Admiral Adung said that they have made these preparations as they are concerned that the citizens of Thailand might be harmed in the escalating conflicts between the Myanmar junta council and revolutionary forces.
Fierce battles broke out near Myawaddy at the border of Thailand and Myanmar in recent days but the situation has calmed down.
In the previous week, revolutionary forces captured and destroyed a junta camp that was around ten kilometres away from Thailand and Thai security forces reported seeing smokes coming up from the site of the camp. But the destruction and casualties in the battle are unable to be confirmed.
