MYANMAR – The new Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Panpree Phathithanukorn said on September 16 that the current situation in Myanmar is only a domestic problem and should be solved according to Myanmar’s legal channels and ASEAN methods. Panpree Phathithanukorn is also the new Foreign Minister of Thailand.
Thailand’s online newspaper Pracha Thai reported, quoting the Deputy PM that the role of ASEAN cannot be ignored as it continues to try to comply with the 5 ASEAN Consensus to end violence and conflict in Myanmar.
He also said that the Thai government is continuing to try to implement the 5 ASEAN Consensus.
New Foreign Minister Panpree said that the conflicts in Myanmar, Democratic efforts, the issues related to State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi are all internal matters, so Myanmar will have to solve them by itself.
Despite this, he said that Thailand will intervene in discussions with ASEAN to facilitate Myanmar’s peaceful efforts.
Thailand has formal and informal meetings with the Myanmar junta regime to resolve the issues related to drugs and illegal border crossings, according to the new Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Panpree.
