MYANMAR – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, National Unity Government (NUG) announced on September 17 that the Myanmar Gems and Jewellery Entrepreneurs Association (MGJEA) which has been providing benefits to the junta council, has been abolished.
NUG has previously stated that an entrepreneurial association must prioritize the benefits of the people, but MGJEA has been, in one way or another, providing the illegal junta regime with credentials, taxes, or benefits.
As such, NUG has given out multiple warnings to the association via statements and notices, but the association chose to ignore them, and hence, the government announced that MGJEA and all of its subsidiaries have been abolished.
NUG also warned that any entrepreneur and employee of the association that continues to work under the association, use the resources of the association, and conduct business under the name of the association after this announcement shall be prosecuted as supporters of the terrorist junta council under existing law, as per decisions from NUG Cabinet Meeting 14/2023 and agreements of the President’s Office.
