SAGAING DIVISION – In Salingyi Township, Sagaing Division, a local villager of Kangone Village who went out to look for mushrooms was shot and killed by the military council troops at 10:30 a.m. on September 4, according to the villagers.
Residents said that the junta army that shot and killed was stationed at the acid factory near Kangone Village.
A villager from Kangone Village said, “The villager who was shot and killed is from our Kangone village. His nickname is Gaut Thee. I don’t know his official name. He is about 30 years old. He does not understand politics. He enjoys hunting, looking for mushrooms and honey and when he goes near the acid factory to look for mushrooms, he was caught by them and shot. The shooting was very brutal. Two bullets in the abdomen, one in the breast, and one shot each in both hands at close range.”
According to local residents, junta military forces have been deployed to protect areas such as the Sa Bae Taung copper project, the Letpadaung Mountain Copper Project and the acid factory which are operated by a Chinese company, and Kangone Village is a village located close to those sites.
