YANGON DIVISION – According to the entrepreneurs in the industrial zone, the junta council is performing preparations and warnings to seize the empty plots of land and the plots of land where houses have been built in the industrial zones in Yangon Division.
The junta council issued a secret directive to regulate the construction of residential buildings in the industrial zones with the reason to update 29 industrial zones in Yangon city.
A directive signed and issued by the junta council’s Yangon Division Minister of Commerce Myo Myint Aung, mentioning that the chairman of the State Administration Council brought up that residential buildings were built in some industrial zones and ordered to regularise the rules and the regulations at the business committee meeting No. 7/2023 which was held in the meeting room of the chairman of the State Administration Council on August 25 2023, asking the district administration departments to be aware and to follow.
According to Yangon business community, even though there are civilian business men who built houses in the industrial zones, most of the owners are the business men close to the junta council and the sons of former Minister Aung Thaung who served during the previous military regime. During the Thein Sein government term, a directive was issued saying that the industrial plots of land would be confiscated if the owners didn’t conduct business but the plan didn’t work out as most of the land owners were people close to the generals.
There are 29 industrial zones in Yangon City, a total of 65% of the industrial zones in the country. The junta council is trying to construct 11 industrial zones in 11 townships outside of the Yangon municipal area.
