MYANMAR – In Yangon and Mandalay, some local people say that some young people have been arrested as recruits for the 2nd batch of military service.
Some local residents said that 18-year-old Maung Thiha Tun, a resident of Paw San Hmway 5 Street, Hlaing Thayar Township (West) was taken away as a soldier on April 28th at 8:30 p.m., in by the terrorist army and police while he was sitting at the corner of the road.
“The electricity was blacked out, so the children were sitting on the corner of the road. That’s why the army and the police arrested them. At 8:30 last night, 18-year-old Maung Thi Ha Tun was arrested by a military vehicle asking, “What are you doing,” said a local resident.
Similarly, in the Yangon Region, Kuonchangkon township, Governor Htay Aung said that youths must serve in the military in Tawkyaung Khyakhat village, and 20 youths will be recruited from the village for the 2nd batch of military service. There will be a drawing of lots for military service and there are many deserters. Governor Htay Aung said that threats and coercion are happening to young people.
Also, Yangon Region, yesterday at 2:00 p.m., a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl from a Yangon-Thanlyin passenger car at the Thanlyin Township checkpoint were interrogated by the army and arrested.
“Where did you come from? The young guys were asked. They replied that they came from Pyin Oo Lwin.
They answered that they were going to Aye Mon village, Khayan Township. They were arrested without saying anything about it. They were arrested at the checkpoint over Thanlyin Bridge Gate,” explained a tourist who witnessed the incident.
Similarly, yesterday, the army suddenly entered and arrested 5 men who were sitting at the “All Good Tea Shop” near Kolon Daka Pagoda, between 90th Street and 30th Street, Chan Aye Tha San Township, Mandalay and arrested them by covering their faces with black clothes.
In addition, the members of the township administrative council are pressuring the neighborhood administrations to draw lots for youths in Mandalay for the 2nd batch of military service, and those who are selected must attend military training. If selected people run away, and no one attends the military training, the young men on the street will be arrested and forced into regiments.
