SAGAING DIVISION – Residents said that there are about 50 young men arrested by the Junta Council for military service in Ye Oo and that they are being taken to the high school S.H.S (1).
On the night of April 29th, more than 20 young people were enlisted in the military service from Aung Mingala, Aung Chantha, Shwe Pyitha, Aung San, and Bo Aung Zeya Wards. In the past, there were cases of arrests after the military service law was enacted. People’s Defense Comrade group’s information officer, Ko Htoo Khant Zaw (mother-son) said that there are at least 50 in total, including those who were previously arrested.
“There were about 50 young men who were arrested so far. They have not been taken to Monywa Northwestern Command yet. They cannot go by land. They will only be able to take them by air,” Ko Htoo Nakh Zaw said.
The abductees included young people and some married men, who were not even allowed to meet their family members, residents said.
In addition, it is reported that people who are listed as military servicemen in Ye Oo, no longer dare to stay in the town and are fleeing to other areas.
The junta council army selected the first batch of conscripts in March began military training, and is now preparing for the second batch.
To avoid putting by force into military service, as the number of men going out to work abroad has increased, the junta council has temporarily suspended the right of men to work abroad since May 1st.
