SAGAING DIVISION – The Ministry of Defence of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that 18 schoolchildren studying were injured when the junta troops opened fire on the monastery of Joe Htaung Village in Wuntho Township.
On the afternoon of September 27, the junta troops fired a heavy weapon (Howitzer) at the Khanti Vamsā Rāma Monastery in Butharsu Ward of Joe Htaung Village, where the children were studying.
It is said that three shells fired by the terrorist junta light infantry battalion 102 exploded in the monastery and 18 schoolchildren were injured by the indiscriminate shelling of the junta council.
Among the injured children, six were seriously injured.
The NUG Ministry of Defence said that this act clearly shows that the junta council led by Min Aung Hlaing is committing war crimes.
In September 2022, the military junta troops carried out an air attack on Let Yet Kone Village School in Tabayin Township, Sagaing Division, and many children were killed and injured.
The military junta forces frequently target civilians, including schools.
