BAGO DIVISION – It has been reported that a female political prisoner in Tharyarwaddy Prison, Bago Division was placed in solitary confinement since the second week of December due to the reason of asking about the situation outside in a meeting with her family.
A responsible person of the Assistance Association of Political Prisoners (AAPP) said that the “main reason was asking about outside situations while meeting with her family but that was just what they (prison staff) said. It doesn’t matter if the prisoners asked about what’s going on outside or not, there were a lot who were illegally placed in solitary confinement according to their (prison staff) mood.”
It has been reported that the staff of the prison were sneakily listening and recording the conversation between the prisoners and their families while they met in prison and reported to the prison warden.
Prisoners were permitted a twenty minute meeting with family every month since last September and the staff would watch and record their conversation.
The Assistance Association of Political Prisoners stated on December 1 that there were over 5100 female prisoners out of over 19,700 political prisoners detained between January 1, 2021 and November 30, 2023 all over Myanmar.
