MYANMAR – The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) reported on May 1 that junta council illegally seized the assets of more than 900 civilians in more than 3 years of the military coup.
Among the civilians whose properties were confiscated were those who opposed the junta council, members of Strike Forces, Democracy activists, government members of NLD party, education staffs, Journalists, and businessmen are also involved, AAPP said.
A total of 1,159 assets of 934 people were confiscated. The apartments and houses of the opposed people, guest house, hotel, hospital, clinic, schools and businesses were seized by the military council.
AAPP explained that terrorist council not only confiscated the assets but also killed 6 civilians and abducted 67 others whose properties were seized.
The military council began to freeze and confiscate the assets starting from the year of military coup 2021, and 2022 listed the highest numbers of confiscating the assets. In 2023, AAPP’s list showed a decrease from the previous 2 years.
The most numbers is at Sagaing Division, where the revolution is very strong, followed by Yangon Division and Mandalay Division is in the third place. After that, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwady and Tanintharyi Divisions are also the regions where civilians’ properties have been seized.
