SHAN STATE – On January 9th, the Kokang Army MNDAA announced that 73 civilians were killed by airstrikes by the Junta Council since the start of the “1027 Operation” by the three brotherhood alliances in the Kokang region of Northern Shan State.
The three brotherhood alliances said that the junta council army has been targeting civilians more during the fighting nowadays. On January 7th, the Junta Council air planes bombed the Mupan (Hsenwi) District near Hsenwi, which was occupied by the Three Brotherhood Alliances, and bombed the area with jet fighters, killing 4 civilians and injuring 1.
In addition to human casualties, at least 10 houses were hit and 9 houses were destroyed in the air attack.
Last December 15th, 10 civilians were killed and 25 were seriously injured when a heavy weapon exploded in Tongchaim neighborhood of Laukkai city which is being occupied by the three brotherhood alliances groups.
Currently, the Three Northern Brotherhood are conducting the Operation 1027, and the military is intensifying in Muse, Lashio, Hsipaw, Kyaukme and Momeit regions, , and in more than 2 months of operations, 15 towns have been captured.
Since the start of the 1027 operation throughout northern Shan State, as the fighting has intensified across the country, the rate of civilian fleeing has increased, and the number of civilians who have fled their homes has increased by more than 650,000 in more than 2 months, the UN Myanmar reported.
