MYANMAR – The United Nations (UN Myanmar) announced on January 10 that 650,000 more people have been displaced due to battles in Myanmar from last October to January.
In the statement, it is said that the battles that started in northern Shan State from October 26 have forced more than 660,000 people to flee their homes due to the ongoing fighting in northern and southern Shan State, Karenni State, Rakhine State, Chin State, Sagaing Division, Mandalay Division, Eastern Bago Division, Karen State, Mon State, and Tanintharyi Division.
In addition, it is said that the number of displaced people is increasing in many districts and states, and the threats to the lives of civilians are increasing.
It also said that US$7 million from the United Nations Emergency Response Center Fund would be allocated in the coming weeks to help those affected by the conflict.
After the military coup in Myanmar, the number of people who have fled their homes due to the fighting and territorial insecurity is gradually increasing and has reached more than 2.6 million at present, according to the United Nations.
