CHIN STATE- Locals informed that 21 houses were destroyed in the fire at Mindat last Thursday (April 11).
At about 2:00 a.m. on April 11, the houses below the fire station hill where the military council forces were stationed, reportedly caught on fire. Locals dared not go there to put out the fire as junta troops had placed landmines there, said a Mindat resident.
“I heard that the fire spread over quickly because the people didn’t dare to put out the fire as junta troops had laid landmines in the area. It is known that these houses are uninhabited and the owners are fleeing the war,” said a resident posted on social media.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but the fire was said to be extinguished at around 6:30 p.m.
On April 1, there was a fire in Bawathit Ward, Mindat Township, and 8 houses were burnt down, said a resident. He also mentioned that the cause of the fire was accidental due to the carelessness of the resident.
As the fire broke out at night, people dared not go out to put out the fire and due to the scarcity of water, the destruction by fire was bigger.
