KAREN STATE – A camp of the Border Guard Force (BGF), subordinate to the junta council, in Hpapun District, a territory under the Karen National Union (KNU), was raided by the members of KNU Brigade 5, which caused the death of five members of BGF, as announced by the KNU Brigade 5.
The BGF camp between Kataeti (Kataingti) and Hteekasaw Mae, that has been extorting money from passersby, was attacked by the coalition of the companies and Battalion 102 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), Karen National Union on the afternoon of May 20.
The attack caused the death of five BGF members including BGF Company Commander Saw Barro, as announced by Brigade 5. Moreover, during the attack, a car belonging to BGF was said to be torched and destroyed.
On May 19, BGF forces fired heavy artillery into Phoe Gae Htar Village and caused some civilians to be wounded and some houses to be destroyed.
Junta forces and their subordinate BGF, running operations in KNU Mutraw (Hpapun) Administrative District, were said to be committing atrocious crimes of terror against the civilians, and there are battles breaking out between said junta and BGF forces and the troops of KNLA Brigade 5 in the region almost every day.
From May 1 to May 15, there have been 63 battles between the members of KNLA Brigade 5 and junta forces, which caused the death of 26 junta soldiers and two members of Brigade 5 also fell in battle.
