TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Two Myeik-based journalists for Dawei Watch News were taken away by the junta council on December 11 at midnight, Dawei Watch announced on December 13.The two journalists: Mr. Aung San Oo and Mr. Myo Myint Oo, were reportedly abducted by junta forces at their homes.
According to the announcement by Dawei Watch, the junta forces told the families of the two that they were being arrested for writing news.The two journalists were arrested without warrants, and it is still not known where they are being interrogated.
As per the results of an investigation by the news agency, the two journalists are said to be detained at an interrogation camp. Two laptops belonging to Dawei Watch News, the two journalists’ mobile phones, and their family members were reportedly confiscated during the arrest.
Dawei Watch asked for the immediate release of its journalists, who are being detained and interrogated illegally, stating that writing news does not constitute a crime.
