SAGAING DIVISION – In Chaung U Township, eight people, including three civilians and five PDF members were shot and beheaded by the junta army, according to the statement by Chaung U Sayardaw (Abbot).
On May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Chaung U, the junta troops that entered the village of Kyigone and continued to the south-west from the village came into contact with the patrol teams of Township People’s Defence Team in the vicinity of Kigone Village. The junta column then raided a training and disciplinary camp of CHUPDF and captured then beheaded three PDF soldiers. Two civilians helping out at the nearby monastery were also captured and beheaded.
“I am a native of Kyigone Village. They (junta forces) spent the whole day ransacking the village and came into contact with PDF outside the village at night. There, three PDF comrades and two civilians were captured by the junta forces. They beheaded the captives. It was a brutal killing,” said Chaung U Sayardaw.
The junta council troops also reportedly shot a 65-year-old refugee woman who they found on the road while leaving Kyigone Village, and the woman died. It is reported that two PDF comrades from another local defence force were also arrested and killed when they ran into the junta army column.
“A 65-year-old woman was fleeing on a motorcycle to escape the fighting. When the junta forces saw her, they shot and killed her. Two other soldiers of a defence force were also arrested and killed on the way. The junta troops killed eight people in one day last night (May 5). The camp was also set on fire. Seven motorcycles, one trailer and other items were also destroyed. The monastery was also destroyed. The persons captured were beheaded in the monastery,” continued Chaung U Sayardaw.
The terrorist junta council troops have been rampaging in the townships of Sagaing Division, including Chaung U Township, with full force of columns. Residents said that the burning of villages and the killing of people are being committed continuously.
