YANGON DIVISION – A young man who was arrested told that beer bars and nightclubs in Yangon that are open beyond the curfew are being raided by junta council and extorted money from them.
On June 13, a person close to the bar said that after the junta council raided the Honey Nest Bar, which was opened in Mayangone Township, beyond 11:00 p.m., hundreds of young people were forced to stay there temporarily and then released after extorting money.
“Where to keep hundreds of people after arresting them? And among those who are here are relatives of higher ranking military officials. It is rare for ordinary people to come here at this time. Even the shop owners dare to open, and those who want to go will also go. Only the owner will be prosecuted. The guys who open the shop are also not any random people. In the end, only those making arrests were beneficial,” he said.
While the junta’s council was entering the Honey Nest Bar, the junta army checked the guest list of Mayangone number (1) ward, and the people of the ward said that no one was arrested.
This month, the Junta’s council ordered nightclubs and bars not to open after 11 p.m., and there have been random raids and arrests. But no one was prosecuted but captured and extorted.
