MYANMAR – Thai Satellite cooperation, THAICOM and French owned CANAL+ have been broadcasting the junta propaganda about races and cooperating with the junta council for profits, as said by Justice For Myanmar – JFM, one of the civil society organizations on May 6.
JFM pointed out that junta broadcasting video clips using racist language and showing torture of the prisoners of wars on MWD, MRTV and MITV, breaks international laws, and that the same broadcast were also shown on THAICOM and CANAL+, calling it an act of breaking section 13 (2) of the third Geneva Convention agreement (1949).
A few days ago, the images of the prisoners with swollen wounds, who were tortured by the junta council, and reports of the recapture of Rohingyas who were running away from the displaced camp by junta forces where the Rohingya people were referred to as Bengalis implying they are not Myanmar citizens, were said to have been broadcasted on THAICOM and CANAL+.
Despite the fact that THAICOM and CANAL+ are aware that the word Bengalis is used by the Myanmar junta as propaganda in ethnic cleansing of the Rohingyas, the images and video clips were still broadcast on their channels. So, Justice For Myanmar requested action against those companies according to international laws.
