MON STATE – It was known that at least 3 people, including officers of the Junta’s Council Departments, were killed and 26 injured during the detonation of the Kyone Aik Bridge near Shwe Yaung Pya village between Thaton Township and Bilin Township in Mon State.
On June 29, at around 4:30 a.m., the Kyone Aik Bridge on the Yangon- Mawlamyine highway was detonated and destroyed, causing one side of the bridge to collapse. The joint forces of the revolutionary forces attacked the military council army and department officials who came to inspect the damage of the bridge and dropped 10 bombs with a drone, resulting in many casualties.
During the drone attack, a Deputy Director of Thaton District Road Department and an employee of the General Administration Department were killed and a law officer was killed in the bridge blast.
During the incident, 26 departmental officials, including Military Council commander Colonel Aung Aung Hein, as well as military and police officers, were injured, and at least 4 are in critical condition.
The destruction of the Kyone Aik Bridge is a military means of cutting off the support route of the Junta Council’s Army, said the chairman of the KNU Thaton District Partnership Affairs Supervision Committee.
Kyone Aik Bridge is on the main road that connects Yangon, Hpa-an, Mawlamyine and Myawaddy. It is only passable for small cars, hence, trucks, and hundreds of vehicles are stuck.
After the explosion of the Kyone Aik Bridge, the military council has tightened security and is working to repair the bridge.
Military analysts believe that the fighting in Mon State’s Thaton district may become more intense due to this incident.
