SHAN-KARENNI – Fighting has intensified at the Shan-Karenni Border, and both sides have casualties, said sources.
On Friday (May 5) at around 4 a.m., the clashes occurred at Taung Salone Village between the Pekon-Pin Laung Region and the junta council, who carried out airstrikes.
“The clashes occurred because the junta forces resumed their offensive. Two comrades were killed because of the junta’s artillery shells recently. The fighting is intensifying still,” said an official of KNDF.
The clashes occurred near Taung Salone, Kan Mite, and Ban Mite Villages. On May 3, Comrade San Myo Kyaw and Comrade Tin Aung Myo were killed at the Taung Salone Village battle, said Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) Battalion – 11.
The junta forces, which suffered great damages in the Pekhon-Pin Laung Battles, retreated to Taung Me Thin Village, Pin Laung Township on April 25 but launched an offensive since May 2.
The junta fighter jets also carried out two airstrikes at Yee Nwet Village, west of Moebye, this morning. “We don’t know about the details of people’s casualties, but some houses were burnt down,” said a member of the Moebye IDP helper group.
The Pekhon-Moebye Battle has been ongoing for over two months, and at least 4,000 IDPs are facing difficulties because the junta council cut off provisions.
