SAGAING DIVISION – It’s reported that more than 100 CDM family members who continue to preserve elephants in a forest of Kani Township that took part in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) need help for their living.
“The 103 family members of officers under the Forestry Department in Yinmabin Township, who conducted CDM, are taking care of 36 elephants and as there is no income, they are facing difficulties feeding themselves,” said AT, the information officer of the Kyauklonegyi KLG Brigade.
He added that the CDM staffs wish to protect the elephants as they’ve always done, but because they are facing numerous hardships earning their living, they are thinking of releasing the elephants into the forest and going back to their hometown.
“Elephants are like our children, so we can’t just let them go and return to our home. It is very difficult for the families of the elephants to protect the elephants without asking them to do work. Even if the elephants are sick, we have difficulties treating them. Last year, one elephant fell sick and died because there was no treatment,” AT said.
Therefore, Kyaunglonegyi KLG PDF Brigade is appealing to everyone to participate and support as much as they can for the livelihood of the elephant and their officer’s family.
Those who wish to support to the cause can contact the Kyauklonegyi KLG PDF team and the Yinmabin District Battalions 21, 22 and 23.
