BAGO DIVISION – It was reported that the IDPs (Internally Displaced People) population has reached over 10,000 in Kyaukkyi Township, and they are in need of foods and medicines, according to the Karen Emergency Relief Committee (KERC) of Kyaukkyi Township.
It was said that the residents of Kyaukkyi Township had been forced to leave their homes and have not been able to return to their homes due to the intense fighting between the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the fascist junta forces in Kyaukkyi Township since the beginning of July.
“The wartime evacuees have been on the run for a long time. They are in need of food supplies as they can’t earn a living, and they are also in need of medicines because they are suffering from seasonal diseases. Moreover, there are not enough shelters during the rainy season,” said the official of KERC.
The supporting groups for IDPs have not been able to provide effective support to the IDPs due to bad transportation since it is the rainy season and because of the genocidal junta forces.
The IDPs have not been able to return to their homes, and they have unfitly been sheltering in the nearby villages, farms, and jungles, which are still out of battle.
In addition, about 30 percent of the IDPs have reportedly suffered from seasonal flu, diarrhoea, and Malaria.
More than 10, 000 of the residents of over 40 villages such as Inn Pa Yi, Kyaung Kone, Yae Twin Kone, Kan Ka Lay, War Chae, Pein Za Loke Ywar Ma, Pauk Kone, Khin Kant Lant, Ka Nyin Kyoe, Nga Hpei Inn, Hpa Yar Ngoke To, Taung Khin, Kyeik Kwin, Ah Hlaing, Nwar Yay Chaung, Thu Htay Kone, Bar Bu Kone, Thar Yar Kone, Zee Kone, Chwe Ta Le, and Baw Di Kwin villages had been forced to run away, according to the report of the Karen National Union (KNU).
