MYANMAR – In the conflicts between the revolutionary forces and the terrorist junta council taking place in Myawaddy and nearby areas at the Thai-Myanmar border, as the junta council is deliberately targeting the lives and properties of civilians, the number of displaced people is rising and thus the National Unity Government (NUG) appealed to the Thailand government for emergency assistance.
It is said that thousands of civilians had to flee into Mae Sot, Tak Province, and other regions just in recent days.
NUG thanked the Thai government, Thai Royal Army, border security forces, and officials from Tak Province for arranging shelters and necessary rescue and aid for those fleeing civilians and stated that the people of Myanmar will always remember such acts of a good neighbor.
NUG said that it expects the number of displaced people to increase further as the junta council continues to target civilians and civilian buildings and appealed to related officers to provide humanitarian assistance and emergency shelters.
It was also mentioned that the National Unity Government and allied ethnic revolutionary organisations are also ready to cooperate with the Thai government and related organizations to assist Myanmar civilians.
The last remaining junta forces from Infantry Battalion 275 in Myawaddy had fled and taken shelter at the Friendship Bridge No. 2 since April 10 night and the joint forces led by the Karen National Union (KNU) have begun attacking them starting April 19 night.
On the other hand, the junta council continuously bombarded the air, destroying buildings in Myawaddy, causing multiple civilian casualties, and forcing many people to flee their homes. As such the revolutionary forces made a retreat on April 21 morning.
