TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The local volunteer groups announced to have started a campaign for the displaced persons namely “San Subu for Wathan-Oo” meaning piggy banks to buy rice during the rainy season.
This campaign is targeted to help save up sufficient food supply for the displaced persons in Tanintharyi.
“About forty million kyats is needed for food and care of almost three thousand displaced persons at Pulaw IDP camp. We have to consider and include the expenses of education for the children in the camp,” stated the spokesperson of the campaign.
He added that depending on the number of displaced people and the funds received, they sometimes had to request assistance from the local alliance forces and from people through fundraising campaigns.
Currently, due to the junta’s four supply-cutting strategies, displaced persons are facing food shortages. So, the volunteer groups are trying to store and gather dry rations for the IDPs.
The “San Subu for Wathan-Oo” campaign period is from June 12 to July 26 and is targeted to raise funds to buy at least 1500 bags of rice.
This campaign is collaborated by the Dawna-Tanintharyi IDPs support group, Pulaw IDP supporting Committee, Nwayoo Myitta IDP support Group, Twel-Latt-Nyi-Nyi IDP Support Group, Tanintharyi People Congress and Student Committee of Tanintharyi Township, as stated in the announcement.

In Tanintharyi, the battleground has been expanding lately as there are more skirmishes between the two sides. The junta council has been firing heavy weapons into civilian neighborhoods, causing damage to civilian properties and displacing hundreds and thousands of locals.
