KAREN STATE – The junta forces heading to the Taungoo-Leiktho Road Section in Thandaung Township were attacked by KNU (Karen National Union) and PDF (People’s Defence Force) joint forces, said an official from Company 3, Battalion 3501 of Taungoo District PDF.
At past 7 a.m. on Monday (July 24), around 70 junta forces marching along the Taungoo-Leiktho Road in Thandaung Township were attacked twice by KNU Brigade 2, Company 1, Northern Thandaung Fighter Sarkhae Group and Yedashay based Company 3.
The first attack took place at Nyaungkalarhtaing Gwae near Eainsu Village in Thandaung at 7:10 a.m. and the second attack happened at the turn near Yingwae Mountain entrance at 7:15 a.m., explained the official from Company 3, Battalion 3501 of Taungoo District PDF.
He continued that there could be casualties on the junta side but the exact number is still being investigated.
After the attack, junta forces fired heavy artillery into the surrounding villages but it is not yet known if there were damages to civilians or houses.
During the operation, KNU and PDF forces were able to withdraw unharmed and have arrived back in the liberated area.
Recently on July 4, Thandaung PDF arrested and eliminated a captain and soldier of the KNLA PC, a junta-affiliated ethnic armed organisation.
