YANGON DIVISION- In South Dagon Township, Ward No. 20 and No. 2 market, junta police have allowed illegal gambling (2D, 3D, and card games) after taking bribes, reported the locals.
Junta-appointed Township Administrators and the Township Police in the No. 2 market have been taking bribes from gambling circles, and 2D 3D sellers and allowing illegal gambling in public. The market was reportedly crowded with gamblers from the opening time until the evening.
“At No. 2 market, they play poker games by the lake and at the worker’s lounge. The gambling site is still crowded until late in the evening. The poker game is led by Mr. Tin Aye (2D banker) and the labor leader, Mr. Zaw Tun. The market manager and officers are also treated with food and drink and given bribes when they come to check the market. Market security is also taking safety for the poker game including the security chief, Mr. Myo Myint Lay,” said a vendor.
The shop owners are concerned about their goods being stolen or looted as the security in the casinos and gambling halls are run by thugs.
In addition, 2D and 3D are openly played just like legal gambling, and there were discussions about the sales in public.
“The 2D and the 3D gambling is not only available in South Dagon Ward 20, and No.2 market only, but in the whole city of Yangon. Junta police allowed after they received bribes. The gambling places are the worst in the suburbs. People in those areas play the 2D and 3D a lot. As the people have no secure jobs nor money, they gamble 2D 3D games with high hopes. They went to some monks and masters for the number to bet. They win and lose in turns. The players sell mortgages and properties to play. The dealers pay bribes and could buy one house after another (from winning money) and become rich. It can be said that junta affiliates are (almost) legally allowing gambling to make people lose interest in revolution and politics,” said a real estate agent and a high-ranking lawyer from the North Dagon Township.
