TANINTARYI DIVISION – According to the car driver’s communities, they have to pay more money to junta force than their fuel cost to do the transportation in the eastern part of Dawei. There are Pyaw Taw Wa , 8 mile , Pa Ka Yi gates between Dawei to Myitta Township. According to car drivers, they have to pay between thousand to ten thousand kyats at each gate.
Passenger car and truck are used to transport passengers and goods daily. Normally it costs around 50,000 MMK for one round trip. The 8 mile gate is the worst as they asked around 10,000 to 20,000 kyats. They have to pay for every time they passed that gate. Therefore, drivers are complaining about it. The eastern part of Dawei mean the area where it is located east part of Dawei Township and mostly Karen ethnic communities are living in their villages. The 8 mile gate is between the Pa Ka Yi gate and Dawei Township. The junta gates along the eastern part of Dawei Township asked money not only from passenger cars and trucks but also from illegal migrant carrying car who are trying to go to Thai side illegally. The junta forces will asked money from those cars a lot ( around 100 thousands).
Since the coup, junta forces stationed more gates in the eastern part of Dawei and extorted more. In addition to that, junta forces also cut off the supply of rice, medicine and other goods to the eastern part of Dawei and they are checking all cars and asked for money if any of those things have been found inside the car.
