AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – A junta Major and township administration officer slapped and assaulted a department chief in public in Pantanaw Town of Ayeyarwaddy Division, reported the residents.
“It’s a show of power among the Non-CDM staff. It started from a gambling house. Major Zayar Lin forced a department chief from the Sports and Physical Education Department to knee in the middle of the streets then slapped him. This case has raised the ire among the Non-CDM community,” explained a resident.
It is said that on December 23 night, the department chief of Pantanaw Township Sports and Physical Education Department got into a row with the owner of a restaurant on Bogyoke Street in the western part of the town, over gambling matters and the restaurant owner called Major Zayar Lin. The junta officer then arrived at the scene and assaulted the department chief.
When contacted to ask about the case, a staff at the Pantanaw Township General Administration just replied that the “higher-ups are working on the case.”
Major Zayar Lin is rumoured to have been summoned to the Division office in Pathein after the case but it cannot be confirmed. Moreover, many junta council staff are said to be dissatisfied by the actions of Major Zayar Lin.
In Ayeyarwaddy Division where the situation has remained calm despite the presence of several defence forces, the junta council servants and military officers are known to party every night at restaurants and KTVs.
