KACHIN STATE – According to residents, a civilian was shot dead by military council troops in Moekaung Township, Kachin State.
On December 11, at around noon, two young men on a bike crossing the Kyuntaw Bridge in Otan Ward, Moekaung Township, were stopped by the military council to be checked. They reportedly drove away without stopping and were shot and killed, stated a resident.
“We heard that two young men drove away. One of them was shot dead, and the other was arrested,” said a woman from Moekaung.
Regarding this incident, when the social assistance group that picked up the body of the victim killed by the military council was interviewed, they said the following.
“We don’t know about the incident. We were asked to pick up the body at Kyuntaw Bridge. We took the body to the hospital. We don’t know who it was as the face was covered,” said the spokesperson of the Social Assistance Group.
Other than the fact that the victim was a middle-aged man, estimated to be in his 30s, the details of the deceased could not be identified yet.
After the military council’s car (picking up people) at a school was shot, there were blockades and inspections in Moekaung Township, and hundreds of civilians were arrested. Among the arrested civilians, some were reportedly killed during interrogation.
