KARENNI STATE – The Karenni State Interim Executive Committee (IEC) announced on November 29 that five Loikaw University faculty members mainly involved in the mechanism of the junta council, including the rector and the vice rector as well as their family members will be prosecuted according to the law.
It is said that the investigation of the Non-CDM faculty members from the university and their family members who were rescued by revolutionary forces after being abandoned by junta council troops have been fully conducted by the Non-CDM special investigation team.
Among them, 70 faculty members and 37 family members found to not have any involvement with the junta regime were released in the first batch and another 59 faculty members and 27 family members were released in the second batch, after making them sign undertakings that “they will not involve themselves with the mechanisms of the terrorist junta council nor contact the school and office, and to follow the will of the people and stand together with the people”. They were then banished out of Karenni State on November 28.
However, five faculty members who were directly involved with the junta regime including the Loikaw University Rector and Vice Rector as well as their family members have been charged by the Karenni State Police Force and will be prosecuted after transferring to related justice department.
In addition, three military family members who had direct relations with the junta council will also be transferred to related martial court to be investigated according to the Military Act and prosecuted, said the IEC.
As the military tension is expected to intensify further, soldiers, police and government staff under the junta council were urged to swiftly join the side of the people and surrender to the revolutionary forces.
