BAGO DIVISION – The junta council is continuously murdering and torturing civilians, said Karen National Union – KNU.
In front of the Nat Than Kwin Hospital, junta soldiers murdered Saw Lay Lay Htoo @ Wunna, 23, who lived in the Takhon Taing Residential Ward, Le Do Township, Nyaung Lay Pin District, KNU Brigade – 3 area. The victim was killed while he was on his way from his office to his home.
According to a resident, the patrolling junta forces shot him in the back. “I saw them inspecting him. He might have been shot dead because he was carrying a lot of money. The junta soldiers stole his mobile phone and money,” said the resident.
On April 25, the junta soldiers abducted Saw Ah Moo, 40, from Kyauk Hmaw Pagoda Village, Kyauk Gyi Village, Nyaung Lay Pin District. He was taken while he was going to the market. The junta troops from infantry battalion – 57 abducted him and sent him to IB – 349 camp.
KNU stated that the junta troops tortured him by setting him on fire with petrol and splashing him with urine on suspicion. KNU also described a photo of Saw Ah Moo receiving medical treatment after he was released.
The junta council also abducted one youth, 22, from Thapyay Nyunt Village, Mu Township, Nyaung Lay Pin District. The victim ran away from the junta soldiers on April 22 and has been receiving medical treatment.
In KNU-controlled areas, the junta council has been violating human rights. From January to March 2023, the junta soldiers committed hundreds of human rights violations, resulting in many civilian casualties and damage to houses.
