YANGON DIVISION – Min Oo, the administration officer for U Yin Ward in Mingala Taungnyunt Township has threatened 20 young people into military service, took them to the Mingaladon Orthopaedic Military Hospital for medical checks on Thursday (March 28) and has not returned them, according to the local people.
On Thursday, the junta council dragged away the young men from the wards to Mingaladon Orthopaedic Military Hospital for medical checks and detained them without returning them. The 20 youths threatened into military service by Administration Officer Min Oo for U Yin Ward were also said to have been among them.
“The U Yin Ward Administration Officer Min Oo has seriously crossed the line. Other wards only sent two people per ward (for military service). Min Oo threatened 20 youths to sign up and handed them to the junta forces. The parents (of those young people) are also saddened. Some of them (conscripted young men) just became fathers, some left behind pregnant wives. There was even a case where both the older and younger brothers from a single household were taken away. They were taken for medical checks at Mingaladon Military Hospital and are not returned. They will reportedly have to stay in the army,” said a relative of a conscripted young man.
In addition, Min Oo is also said to be extorting money from the households in the ward.
Similarly, Ye Ko, the administration officer for Ward No. 90 in Dagon Seikkan Township is also said to be abducting youths for military service as there were no people signing up. He also terrorized the parents of the young people who evaded conscription and threatened to torch or seal off their homes.
