SAGAING DIVISION- According to residents, a fire broke out at the Military Council wood mill on Bogyoke Road, Obo Taung Quarter, Monywa Town last Monday (March 28)
Last Monday, at around 4 a.m., the fire started from the main building of the No. 75 main mill owned by the Military Forestry Department.
“We don’t know where exactly the fire started. The fire department is still investigating. The fire is most likely due to a short circuit. Almost the entire factory area was burnt down,” a resident of Monywa told the media.
The mill building in the timber forest burned down. All the sawmills and accessories including timber and wood were burnt down. Locals estimated that the loss of 16 tons of wood which could be millions of kyats.
Officials of the Sagaing Division Fire Department Monywa District Fire Station and Auxiliary Fire Stations arrived at the scene with 20 fire trucks and around 100 firefighting forces. After more than 3 hours, the fire was extinguished and no one was injured.
On November 7 last year, in Monywa City, a resident of Htantaw Ward set fire to his own house under the influence of alcohol. The fire also caught the neighborhood houses and burned down more than 30 buildings.
