MYANMAR – On August 28, the East Timor government condemned the junta council led by Min Aung Hlaing, who expelled the top diplomat from the embassy in Yangon to leave Myanmar by September 1st. The announcement mentioned that it is important to support all efforts to achieve democracy in Myanmar.
Last month, East Timorese President Jose Ramos Hota invited Foreign Minister of the National Unity Government (NUG) Daw Zin Ma Aung to Dili, the capital of East Timor, and in early August, Prime Minister Gusmão criticized Myanmar’s conflict issue by saying that it would have to reconsider its entry into ASEAN membership by looking at how ASEAN is dealing with Myanmar Junta’s Generals.
Therefore, on August 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Junta Council posted on Facebook that East Timor encouraged the terrorist group (NUG) to do more violence and irresponsible actions in Myanmar. Hence, an order was issued to expel Timor’s top diplomat from Myanmar no later than September 1st.
Therefore, the government of East Timor asks Myanmar Junta Council to respect human rights, resolve the internal crisis positively and peacefully. East Timor announced on August 28 that it is important to support all efforts to restore Myanmar’s democracy.
Mr. Lin Thant, a representative of the NUG government office in Prague, Czech Republic, criticized the military council’s expulsion of East Timor embassy staff as a completely unfair act.
