SHAN STATE – The 60th Anniversary Ceremony of the Shan State Army (SSA) was held on Wednesday (April 24) and was attended by Dr. Nyo Tun Aung, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Arakan Army (AA).
The ceremony was held in Wanhai, Kyethi Township, and the headquarters of SSPP/SSA Dr. Nyo Tun Aung attended to congratulate as an ally.
Shan National League of Democracy (SNLD) and Pa’O National Liberation Army (PNLO/PNLA) also sent congratulatory messages to the ceremony and the AA Deputy Commander in Chief delivered a congratulatory speech.
“Just as there were shifts in the situation post the military coup in 2021, there were also multiple shifts in the political and military situations after Operation 1027 in 2023. I hope for SSPP/SSA, together with the Shan people to achieve their goals for their people and region along with the changing political currents,” said Dr. Nyo Tun Aung.
The Chairman of SSPP/SSA delivered the commencement speech at the ceremony, while Major Sai Phone Han read out the history of SSA.
Major Sai Phone Han added that SSPP/SSA will fight against colonialism, dictatorship, racism, and ethnocentrism and aim to walk the path of peaceful cohabitation.
In the Shan armed revolution that started on May 21, 1948, the scattered Shan armed forces were united on April 24, 1964, and formed the Shan State Army with Sao Nang Hearn Kham, the wife of Sao Shwe Thaik of Nyaungshwe, at the helm.
