TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Junta soldiers were ambushed by revolutionary comrades at the inspection gate of Ka Myaw Kin Bridge, the entrance to Dawei, on March 28 (Tuesday) around 4 a.m.
The junta troops returned fire, with residents hearing heavy artillery shells and machine gun fire. “At the start of the battle, there was continuous shooting, and shoppers near the bank fled, fearing a town capture battle,” said a resident.
The attack may have resulted in the deaths of around three junta soldiers, according to the resident. It is unknown which group carried out the attack and the full details of the battle.
During the exchange of fire, passersby and shoppers were caught on both sides of Ka Myaw Kin Bridge. Around 5 a.m., the junta soldiers reopened the bridge, but few passed through.
Ka Myaw Kin Bridge connects Dawei Town and Laung Lone Township, just 0.5 miles away from Tanintharyi Minister Housing.
After the coup, the junta council soldiers established an inspection gate at Ka Myaw Kin Bridge, tightening security. Bunkers were also set up on Pagoda Hill, overlooking the gate.
On March 27, Junta Battalion 8, based in Dawei, was attacked by drones, while junta soldiers at Zaha Artillery Force, Dawei Township, and the junta camp in Win Wa Village, Thayet Chaung Township, were fired upon by heavy artillery shells.
