MAGWAY DIVISION – The members of ABSDF (All Burma Students Democratic Front) Column 3 stated that they provided healthcare to the internally displaced people in Gangaw Township who have fallen ill after contracting seasonal flu.
The team, along with three CDM healthcare professionals, is reported to have been making healthcare visits to the IDP camps since June 11. It is said that almost 90 percent of the 1,500 people, both adults and children, from 500 households are showing symptoms of sickness and flu as it is the change of seasons.
“We are visiting the places where the IDPs are staying to provide treatment. There is an issue with medicine shortage. We are just going through a cycle of running out of medicine then replenishing when we receive donations. We even used part of our funds for the camp to provide healthcare for the displaced people,” said Comrade Pyae Phyo Kyaw, the information officer.
Seasonal flu causes body aches and running nose that persist for around a week but it hasn’t resulted in any deaths.
A local shared that the flu is more rampant as the IDPs have to stay in tents in the jungles where there is temperature imbalance and have to face sudden pour of rain when working outside and that the disease spreads more easily as they stay in crowds.
