YANGON DIVISION – Singer Byuhar was reportedly detained and charged under article 505(A) for criticizing the coup leader and the Minister of Electricity Department through his Facebook Page regarding the power outage in Yangon for several months.
“He (who was arrested on May 24) is finally charged today, on May 29, at the North Dagon Township Court,” stated a person close to his family.
The informer also mentioned that the next trial for the singer is set for June 9 but he would not hire a private lawyer for the case, and he is reportedly kept in North Dagon police custody with only his immediate family members allowed to see him.
However, his 65-year-old father, the composer/vocalist (Saya) Mr. Naing Myanmar’s home was searched by the junta troops on the previous day (May 28). It was reported that since Mr. Naing Myanmar was not at home during the search, his wife, Ms. Wah Wah Lwin, was detained and interrogated at the North Dagon Police Station for about 10 hours.
Currently, Mr. Naing Myanmar has fled to safety, as he is wanted by the junta regime although the junta council has not released any statements about these matters.
The 38-year-old singer, Byuhar’s real name is Mr. Min Oak Myanmar. He has been living at Ba Htoo Housing in North Dagon Township, with his 31-year-old wife, Ms. Khin Chit Kyi, daughter Dardu Myanmar (age 10), and son Gon Yaung Myanmar (8).
The conviction under article 505 (A) could face a maximum prison term of three years. His face was reportedly swollen due to the tortures during the arrest (and interrogations) but is now recovering.
